Marion Thénault

Short bio

I have loved acrobatics for as long as I can remember. Through aerials, I developped a passion for skiing and being in the outdoors. I am now a 2-time Olympian, Olympic Bronze medallist and a multiple-time world cup medallist. Parallelly, I am an aerospace enginnering student. I love developping tools to better engage with science. In the last few years, I also became an advocate for environmental protection. I am in the POW athlete alliance, I am an IOC climate award finalist and have ongoing projects aiming to leverage my athlete career for better sustainability practices in sports.

WRITTEN STATEMENT

If I were a member of the athlete commission, my mission would be to help sports and the pursuit of excellence stay a fulfilling experience for Canadian athletes. I believe sports are essential to a healthy society and deserve to be protected, the sport ecosystem as well as our fields of play. Firstly, I would want to contribute to the protection of the conditions that allow us to enjoy our sports in summer and winter, through promoting environmental considerations in decision making. Secondly, the Olympics have such a beautiful platform that can be leveraged to share what we care about; my vision would be to help create a space that makes athlete mobilization accessible. I envision an athlete commission that empowers athletes to get involved in their own communities. From this movement, I would then love to contribute to build bridges between athlete voices and institutional decisions. Thirdly, I would love to contribute to shining light on Olympians stories so that the Olympic movement can stay a strong symbol of hope, grit and collaboration. My vision for the athlete commission is a team of athletes that brings insights from the field up to the Canadian Olympic Committee, helping it foster a culture and climate where athletes thrive in and lead by example on societal issues.
