I am Kaylie Buck, a Canadian snowboard athlete competing in parallel giant slalom. I have represented Canada internationally on the FIS World Cup circuit since 2017 and am a two-time Olympian. Alongside my athletic career, I work with the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Game Plan team, supporting athlete initiatives beyond the field of play. I also serve on the athlete council with Canada Snowboard, contributing to athlete representation and communication between athletes and leadership. Experiencing the sport system both as an athlete and professionally has given me a unique perspective on the opportunities and challenges athletes face.
As an active national team athlete and someone working within the Canadian sport system supporting athletes, I bring a perspective that combines lived experience with an understanding of how athlete services and programs are developed. Competing internationally in snowboard parallel giant slalom since 2017 has given me direct insight into the realities many athletes face. From navigating injuries and financial pressures within Canada’s underfunded sport system to balancing performance with education and long-term career planning, athletes manage far more than what happens on the field of play. I believe athlete voices play a critical role in shaping the future of sport in Canada. If elected to the Athletes’ Commission, I would bring a collaborative mindset and a strong commitment to athlete representation. One of the Commission’s key responsibilities is ensuring athletes feel heard and that their perspectives meaningfully inform decisions that impact their careers and wellbeing. My vision for the Commission is to ensure athlete voices remain at the forefront of conversations that shape the Canadian sport system. Athletes should have meaningful representation in decisions made at the highest levels of sport in our country, and the Commission plays a vital role in bringing those perspectives forward within the Canadian Olympic Committee.
