Marielle Thompson

Short bio

My name is Marielle Thompson. In 2010, I was inspired to one day become an Olympian when I watched the best in the world compete at the Olympics in my hometown of Whistler. I‘m a four-time Olympian, two-time Olympic medallist, and World Champion in the sport of ski cross. One of the greatest honours of my career was carrying the Maple Leaf and leading Team Canada into the Milano Cortina Opening Ceremony alongside Mikaël Kingsbury. Off the slopes, I enjoy spending time with my people, riding my bike, reading, and playing with my dog Pepper.

WRITTEN STATEMENT

I’ve been an appointed member of the Commission for 2 years and having the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow athletes has been invaluable. In this time I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the issues that matter most to athletes and enjoyed connecting with athletes from many sports.

While I was disappointed to miss out on a seat at the IOC Athletes Commission during the MiCo Games, the experience reinforced my belief that athlete representation is essential at every level of sport.

If elected to the COC Athletes Commission I will continue to amplify the athlete voice, learn from the experiences of others, and collaborate to make meaningful change. It is integral that athletes feel heard and valued in the sport system.

My vision for the Athletes Commission is to collaborate to inspire new sport leaders in Canada and positively influence the Canadian sport system. We must be open to innovation and clear with our shared objectives. It is most important that the athletes feel connected to the AC and that their voice is valued.
